The Google Analytics 4 connector is the recommended first step. Once it is connected, Narrative reads your traffic daily, separates the sessions that arrived from AI assistants from the rest, and attributes sessions to every page published inside a campaign. The Impact tab under Analyze switches on the moment the first import completes.

Before you start

  • You need a Google account with Viewer access or higher on the GA4 property. The connector reads; it never writes.
  • The property should be the one that tracks the site you connected as your brand. If the brand has several properties, pick the one that covers the pages Narrative publishes to.
  • Allow pop-ups for app.yournarrative.ai. Google’s consent screen opens in a small window, and a blocked pop-up is the most common reason a connection does not start.

Connect

1

Open Connectors

In Narrative, go to Personalize → Connectors. Google Analytics 4 is the card at the top, marked Recommended first step. Click Connect.

The Connectors page under Personalize. GA4 sits at the top; the cards below are filtered by Bring data in and Publish changes.

2

Choose your Google account

A Google window opens. Pick the account that has access to the property. The card in Narrative reads Waiting for authorization until you finish.

3

Confirm it is you

If you have connected a Google product to Narrative before, Google confirms you are signing back in. Click Continue.

4

Grant read-only access

Google lists the one permission Narrative asks for: See and download your Google Analytics data. Tick it and click Continue. Narrative cannot proceed without it, and it never asks for edit access.

5

Pick the property

The window closes and Narrative asks which GA4 property to read. Pick one and click Connect. You can change it later by reconnecting.
Narrative's Choose what to connect dialog for a Google account.

The picker lists every property the Google account can see. This account has none, which is the message to expect if you signed in with the wrong account.

6

Wait for the first import

The card turns Connected and the import starts: the last six months of daily traffic, page by page, then a daily top-up from then on. The first import usually finishes within the hour. While it runs, campaigns show Importing your Google Analytics data rather than asking you to connect.

If the picker is empty

We did not find anything on this Google account means the account you chose in Google has no GA4 property it can view. Click Cancel, then Finish setup on the card again and pick a different account, or ask a property admin to grant the account Viewer access in GA4 under Admin → Property access management.

What Narrative reads

Narrative keeps daily aggregates only. It never reads user-level or identifying data, and nothing it reads is sent to an AI model prompt.

Manage the connection

Personalize → Connectors → Google Analytics 4 → Manage connection shows the connection’s status, the last 28 days of sessions and how many came from AI assistants, the top AI source, and the permission granted.

Permissions

All Google connectors share one Google sign-in per brand. Connecting Search Console or Tag Manager later adds its permission to the same grant rather than asking you to sign in again.

Disconnect

Manage connection → Disconnect revokes the permission with Google and deletes the stored credential. If this is the last Google connector on the brand, the Google grant itself is deleted. You can also remove Narrative from your Google Account’s third-party access page; Narrative notices on its next sync and marks the connection as needing reconnection.
